It was the last movie starring Chris Farley to be released during his lifetime, and while no one would expect a "Chris Farley Movie" to be anything but pure silliness mixed with pratfall after endless pratfall, his talents alone couldn't save what amounts to a dumb and very thin story. Some comedies cannot be saved, no matter the talents of those involved, and Beverly Hills Ninja is such a movie. As he pursues the bad guys and goes from one calamity to the next, Haru must find a way to bust up the counterfeiting ring before more people, including "Sally," get hurt. Upon arrival in Beverly Hills, Haru finds a willing student ( Chris Rock), a bellhop, who wants to train under him, and soon discovers that Sally isn't who she says she is. Gobei, Haru's adoptive brother, is sent in secret to track Haru and make sure he doesn't get too far in over his head. Haru is unable to tell Sally of this before she leaves the island, and so Haru, with only a matchbook of a Beverly Hills hotel to guide him, resolves to travel across the ocean to Beverly Hills to continue to help Sally. Haru agrees to help her, and soon discovers that Sally's husband and bodyguard are engaged in a counterfeiting ring. A woman named Sally Jones ( Nicollette Sheridan) enters the temple and requests assistance in finding out what nefarious activities her husband is engaging in behind her back. Naru is left behind while the other ninjas go on a mission. ![]() Named Haru ( Chris Farley), his large size and clumsiness make him the worst ninja of all who are training. The baby is adopted by the ninjas, grows up, and trains with the other young ninjas. Beverly Hills Ninja may be considered a low-brow romp, but a romp it is nonetheless. In BEVERLY HILLS NINJA, a chest washes ashore and is discovered by a group of ninjas. But it's not all slapstick a scene where Haru is so taken by dancers at a local strip bar that he joins in is reminiscent of the mud-wrestling scene from Stripes. Farley was a master at these tried-and-true gags, which reach right back into the origins of comedy. ![]() Beverly Hills Ninja is full of individual comic gags that are hilarious in their purity-call it sadistic, but sometimes it's just plain funny watching a guy unwittingly walk into a lamppost while carrying on a conversation. Finding out Sally's boyfriend is a counterfeiter and murderer, Haru with the help of hotel bellboy Joey (Chris Rock) and unknowingly with the help of his ninja brother Gobei (Robin Shou) takes down the counterfeit ring and finds his place among the ninja clan. ![]() ![]() Through a series of mix-ups (generally caused by Haru himself), Haru is framed for murder and he follows Sally to Beverly Hills to set things right. But when a beautiful stranger named Sally (Nicollette Sheridan) appears at the dojo seeking a ninja's help, Haru finds his calling. Legend has it that a foreigner would arrive and become the greatest ninja ever, known as the "Great White Ninja." As Haru grew, it became apparent: he was not the one. As a baby, Haru (Farley) appeared on the coastal shores of Japan. A slapstick comedy starring Chris Farley, Beverly Hills Ninja is part prop-gag movie and part testament to the late comedian's physical comedic abilities.
