Start checking by pulling up on pushrod side of rocker arm which will press down to open valve. Rotate the motor until the exhaust is closing and start checking when the exhaust gets around the final third of its downward travel to being closed until fully closed. Remove the valve spring on each valve and replace them with light weight checking springs (can be found at hardware store just make sure they are long enough, will seat against your retainer, and are easily collapsed by hand pressure).
